Can’t fit going to the gym into your schedule? Is a monthly membership not in your budget right now? Do you just not like working out around strangers? All of these are popular reasons people don’t like going to the gym, so you’re not alone! In order to still live a healthy lifestyle, we recommend exercising at home. You don’t have to drive anywhere, there are no monthly fees, and you don’t have to worry about who you’ll see or what you look like! Here are some tips on how to do it successfully!
1) Use Your Body
This requires no monetary investment whatsoever! Use your bodyweight to do squats, pushups, leg kicks, etc. Set up a weekly schedule of exercises you want to do each day and then mix it up with a walk or jog around the block or some other form of cardio to get yourself a great workout!
2) Invest in Gym Equipment
Really dedicated to a healthy lifestyle? If you plan on making working out a part of your everyday life, investing in a treadmill, ab machine, or bicycle is a great idea! These machines give you the gym feel without having to go to the gym, and, every time you walk by the machine you’ll be reminded you need to workout! Don’t have the money to spend right now? Head to your local Walmart or Target and grab a pair of handheld weights to get you through the first few months. As you get stronger, buy heavier weights.
3) Take Advantage of Technology
Go to your app store and download a few fitness apps! There are so many out there that help you keep track of your diet and also give you workouts to do at home. A few of our favorites are: Nike+ Training Club & Nike + Run Club, MyFitnessPal, Sweat, and Full Fitness: Exercise Workout Trainer.
4) Workout with a Friend or Family Member
Invite over your BFF or a family member to workout with you at home. This can make it more enjoyable and can also help you stay on track because you’ll have someone to hold you accountable if you bail on a workout!
5) Put Equipment in Easy-to-Access Places
If your workout equipment is in the basement or hidden in a back room of your house, chances are you’ll be less likely to use it. Put it in a room you visit often and where you can see it, that way you’ll remember to workout!
6) Watch YouTube Videos or Buy Workout DVDs
YouTube is filled with so many great yoga, pilates, zumba, and other fitness videos you can workout to! Or, if you prefer to skip ads, invest in a few workout DVDs. Jillian Michael’s has some tough videos that will give you an awesome workout!
