With all of the food options we have nowadays, it’s hard to distinguish between what’s actually good for us, and what is labeled as good for us. Here are 5 foods you may have been told to add to your diet but are actually harmful to you:
1. Fat-Free and Low-Fat Milk
Full-fat dairy is actually much better for you, so don’t be afraid to add it to your diet! Aside from making you feel fuller longer, full-fat milk also isn’t linked to heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes, as fat-free and low-fat are.
2. Nonorganic Strawberries
The pesticides used on these strawberries can cause reproductive problems and have been linked to cancer.
3. Garcinia Cambogia
This popular fruit is the main ingredient in a lot of new weight loss supplements. And while it has some positive results, it also has been connected to liver damage/failure.
4. Microwavable Popcorn
Despite being low calorie or “natural,” microwavable popcorn can have serious side effects. Most microwavable bags are coated with nonstick chemicals such as PFOS and PFOA, which have been linked to cancer. The fake butter flavoring can also lead to dangerous lung problems. Instead of purchasing microwavable popcorn, next time, pop your own!
Almost all shrimp in the US, no matter what it’s labeled, is imported farmed shrimp. Because of the pesticides used on farmed shrimp, shrimp has been linked to ADHD, breast cancer, and low sperm counts.
